Shabbat Evening Service with Special Guest in Honor of Nostra Aetate

    Friday, Nov 7th 6:00p to 7:00p
Nostra Aetate — the Declaration on the Relation of the Catholic Church to Non-Christian Religions — was officially promulgated by Pope Paul VI sixty years ago, on October 28, 1965, during the closing session of the Second Vatican Council. This declaration marked a historic turning point in the Catholic Church’s relationship with the Jewish people. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of this landmark declaration, the Diocese of Shreveport is partnering with the Jewish community to bring together clergy from both faiths.

Place Flags at Gravesites before Veterans Day

    Sunday, Nov 9th 3:00p to 4:30p
We will be placing or replacing flags at the graves of the veterans in the Shreveport Jewish cemeteries. We will meet 3pm at the Agudath Achim Hebrew Rest (Intersection of Yale and Walnut Streets) , then 3:30pm continue to the Jewish section of Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Avenue (Hebrew Rest 3). At 4pm we expect to be at Hebrew Rest 2 (1437 Texas Avenue), and 4:20pm Hebrew Rest 1 (the Jewish section of Oakland Cemetery). You are welcome to join us at only one or a few of the cemeteries. The times are approximate, since we do not know exactly how long each cemetery will take due to number of flags to be changed, and number of people helping. It would be helpful if you let the office or the Rabbi know if you plan to join us - so that we know to expect you. Please also contact us if you see a Jewish veteran's grave that does not have a JWV (Jewish War Veteran) marker. We can provide markers and flags for Jewish veterans in cemeteries other than the Jewish cemeteries.
