Place Flags at Gravesites before Veterans Day

Sunday, November 10, 2024 9 Cheshvan 5785

3:00 PM - 4:30 PMB'nai Zion Cemeteries

Veterans Day is when we honor our living Veterans. We honor our veterans with a special Shabbat Service. We realize that Memorial Day is the day to honor the fallen military.

The Jewish community of Shreveport  also has a tradition of making sure that there are flags at the gravesites of each veteran, to honor everyone who is buried in our cemeteries and served in any capacity in the military. We place or replace flags at the gravesites every year at Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

The current plan for this holiday is
- 3:00pm the Agudath Achim Hebrew Rest at the Intersection of Yale and Walnut Streets (Orthodox Hebrew Rest)
-3:30pm Jewish section of Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Avenue (Hebrew Rest 3).
-4:00pm Hebrew Rest 2 at 1437 Texas Avenue
-4:20pm Hebrew Rest 1 in the Jewish section of Oakland Cemetery

You are welcome to join us at only one or a few of the cemeteries. The times are approximate, since we do not know exactly how long each cemetery will take due to number of flags to be changed, and number of people helping.

Check the B'nai Zion website or messages in case of any changes.

It would be helpful if you let the office or the Rabbi know if you plan to join us - so that we know to expect you.

Please also contact us if you see a Jewish veteran's grave that does not have a JWV (Jewish War Veteran) marker.

We can also provide markers and flags for Jewish veterans in cemeteries other than the Jewish cemeteries.
