It's About Time

From Rabbi Jana and Sam Silverblatt:

Do you have the time?

How do you answer that? Sometimes it is a question about what time it is now. Sometimes it is about asking if you can take time to do something.

At B’nai Zion we have been taking time to think about how we use our time. By “us” we mean: the Rabbi, the congregation, the congregants, the Board, the office, the officers.

This summer we will be taking some “down time. ” As you know, each summer we reduce our office hours so that we are officially open from 9am – 12pm (instead of the usual 9am – 2pm).

We are also giving Rabbi Jana some “time off.” Starting in June, and continuing through the end of the summer, the Board has decided to give Rabbi Jana some Sabbatical time. She will still be on-call for emergencies, but the rest of the time she can travel, be with her family, prep High Holy Days without distractions – whatever she wants to take time to do.

From June through the end of August 2023, we are asking that you find ways to take time to help us. We still need to get together for services so that when it is time for people to say Kaddish, we will have made time to be there for them. The services will be led by members of the congregation. During those months, we will only be in-person – we will NOT be streaming, we will NOT be online - we are looking for this to be a "no pressure time" for services. Contact Helaine Braunig or Bernard Lobel if you can helpYou can do it. Please let them know what time works for you.

Since the summer is usually slower and more relaxed anyway, it is a good time for us to show that as a congregation we make time for each other.

President Sam calls it “hibernation time.”

Rabbi Jana says: have a great time. Thank you for the time.
