Wonderings 2 Small Changes

What I am wondering about for this week is what does one person do to help make change? I can’t fix the world’s problems, but I know I have to try. What I do believe is that I can make a small change, and it could help. I believe in the “ripple.” I have watched ripples from small changes make a difference in people, for people and in the world.

Can you share an idea for a small change that you have done or can do that could help make a ripple that could make a change? It could be something about yourself (what small change could you do to get better sleep, or eat better, or exercise more, etc.); or others (what small change could you do to help students succeed better, or someone who is hungry get food, etc.), or the world (what small change could you do to help…

So the first thing you have to do before you can change anything is to let go of all baggage. You can always forgive -  you’ll never forget,  but let it go!  [J]

Changes I have made since finding B'nai Zion (during the Pandemic) and focusing on Rabbi Jana's teachings:
-Participate in at least one weekly Shabbat Service, and many weeks twice. Finding a sense of comfort in them.
-Looking forward to Torah study.
-Stopped doing chores on Shabbat.
-Think about G-d multiple times day, whether it be thankful for my blessings or seeking comfort when troubled.
What I would like to change going forward:
- Lighting candles. (Did not do this for most of my adult life (except on holidays) for fear my cat would jump up and swoosh her tail through the flame. Kitty is no more, so there is no excuse. I must to commit to the practice.
- I am one of those people who's brain has not rewired to grocery shopping for one person. I see a great sale & stock up. Food is wasted when it rots (fresh produce) or expires before its used. There are big losses when we lose power due to storms. I want to make a conscious effort to stop over-purchasing at the grocery store. Although this year I have continued donating food to the hunger barrels, I could be using more of my funds in choosing additional items that would better serve the hungry community. Its a win/win. I stop wasteful spending, I have more money available for helping others.
- Becoming more understanding in my conversations with others. Realizing that everyone has things that stress them. I will try to be understanding, instead of quickly reacting. [M]
