Holocaust Remembrance Service

Sunday, April 16, 2023 25 Nisan 5783

3:00 PM - 4:00 PMZion Baptist Church 3031 Hollywood Ave, Shreveport, LA 71108

To honor the lives that were lost during one of humanity’s worst moments, our community remembers the Holocaust with an annual ecumenical service. Through our remembering and active cooperation, we strive to obliterate injustice.

The annual Literary & Arts competition now includes an essay for Middle School Students, and the High School competitions have more categories than ever before here: Essay, Poetry, Short Story, Art, Music. Winning entries will be presented during the service. Deadline to submit for the Competition is March 1.

The Chair of the event this year Pastor Brady L. Blade, Sr. who is the pastor at Zion Baptist Church.

This year the special speaker will be Andras Lacko who we have obtained through the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum.

Andras Lacko was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936. In a twist of fate, Lacko contracted scarlet fever in 1944 and was saved from ghettoization and subsequent deportation to Poland. He survived the Holocaust in a military hospital and was later reunited with his mother and father after the Soviet liberation of Budapest.

Eleven candles will be lit to honor the memories of eleven million people who lost their lives during the Holocaust. One candle will be lit to represent the modern tragedies due to hatred, prejudice and injustice.

We will share prayers and memories.
