Blessing of the Backpack & Welcome Back from Camp Shabbat Evening Service

Friday, August 12, 2022 15 Av 5782

6:00 PM - 7:00 PMB'nai Zion

Blessing of the Backpacks: Friday, August 12  during Friday evening service (6 PM) we will have our annual “Blessing of the Backpack” service when we bless the backpacks and students who will be attending school.
Check out the Blessing of the Backpack webpage at BZ.

We also welcome back campers who attended any Jewish Camp over the summer.

We are taking donations of backpacks, school supplies, and/or food to help others.

From the Food Bank of North Louisiana about their Backpack Program:

Chronically hungry children are provided with a backpack of food to take home for the weekend and holidays.  Each  7 - 10 pound weekly bag includes items such as granola bars, fruit juice and pop top canned food. Contact the Food Bank for more information on the Back Pack program. CLICK HERE to go to their website.

You are welcome to bring donations of food (the site tells which foods they need the most), or make financial donations directly or to B'nai Zion to pass along to the Food Bank.  Financial donations honestly provide more food - the Food Bank has connections with stronger purchasing "power" when they buy what they need directly.

Join us as we bless our students - and their backpacks - for a successful school year. You do not have to bring your backpack for it to be blessed. Rabbi Jana will give you a special "Birkat HaBackpack" (blessing of the backpack) tag you can keep in your backpack. There is a new color tag each year - collect them all. If you cannot attend, Rabbi Jana is still happy to give you one - just ask her.
