Zion Adult Education Registration Form
- Learn more about Judaism, whether you have lived Jewishly all your life, want to be Jewish, or are just curious.
- Learn about Jewish languages. (Did you know that Rabbi Jana has a Doctoral Degree in Linguistics with a specialization in Jewish Dialectology?)
- Learn to read Hebrew.
WHO:
Everyone is welcome to attend. The classes will be geared toward adults, but teens can certainly join. Contact Rabbi Jana if younger students would like to attend.
WHEN:
Winter Session
begins January 12 and 13 and will continue through the end of February.
Days and Times: Classes will be Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Some classes have both daytime and evening options. If you enroll in a course, you are welcome to attend either or both time options for that course, without paying for the additional class time.
FEES:
Tuition
is $18 per course for B'nai Zion members or conversion students; $36 for non-members. Scholarships are available (If you are requesting a scholarship or payment plan, contact Rabbi Jana, who will have to submit the registration for you). Materials will be provided for most classes. Understanding Judaism has a text book that you should obtain (see the course information for details).
WHERE:
All classes will be available on Zoom.
- Watch for details about when/if in-person option becomes available. We are currently ONLY offering Zoom classes, due to the high COVID rate in Shreveport.
WHAT:
-Hebrew From Day One:
Learn to read all of the Hebrew letters and Vowels by examining the First Day of Creation in Genesis and the Decalogue from Exodus.
Texts and learning materials are provided online.
Two options: mid-day or evening (take one or both - only one tuition):
Wednesdays 11am-12pm
Thursdays 6pm-7pm
-Understanding Judaism:
Covering these topics: Shabbat, Holy Days & Holidays, Life Cycle, Jewish Home, Death & Mourning, God / Prayer / Midrash, Jewish Community, and more. This course is required for anyone wanting to convert to Judaism, but is a wonderful way to deepen your knowledge even if you were raised Jewish.
Text: "Every Person's Guide to Judaism" (Stephen J. Einstein & Lydia Kukoff), 1989 UAHC Press. (It can be obtained from used book outlets. Contact me if you have problems obtaining the book.)

-Jewish Way with Words:
Learn about Jewish languages. Learn vocabulary and phrases in Jewish languages including: Modern Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, Jewish-Italian, and more.
Materials will be provided.
